Children are our future and so is technology. When children do not have access to technology, it hinders their ability to be successful in the future. I teach 20 fourth grade students in a high-need community. I could not ask for a more well-behaved, determined group of students. My students want to learn and have a desire to succeed. Most of their parents are only high school graduates who have never attended a post-secondary school. Some parents haven't even graduated from high school.

Many of my students have only the basic needs at home. They do not have access to any kind of technology unless it is located at school. However, our school district does not have the funds to successfully keep up-to-date with the newest technology. The computers in the classroom are still running on Windows 98. Our school has one floating, portable Smartboard that has to be shared among the 20 classrooms. Because of this, providing meaningful lessons with technology in the classroom is almost impossible. We do have a computer lab, but only 20 of the 25 computers are in working condition. Bringing technology into the classroom is a multiple step process. I would like to start small by introducing a digital camera.

By having a digital camera in the classroom, I will be able to document multiple classroom activities that take place throughout the year. I want to provide each student with a pictorial remembrance of their fourth grade experience. This will also serve a double purpose by helping increase parental involvement by keeping them informed of their child's educational experience.

With your donation, you will ensure that my students will get to experience the excitement of technology. You will also help make an impact in their lives by encouraging their parents to become involved in their educational career.
