Please end the 6th grade historian silence that has been imposed upon them by lack of appropriate technology. We have a great group of 6th grade students who hunger to learn history in a 21st century fashion. The buy in each student has when technology is involved is increased greatly. I teach U.S. History Pre-Columbian to Reconstruction - 1877. We really focus on how our country was born and grew into the great nation that we live in. Our school has a diverse population of learners. We have a large number of special needs that have to be met. We also use as much technology as we can to help assist with any learning needs that a student may have. The students feel empowered to learn when technology, not an adult, can assist them.

Our history class is moving toward 21st Century learning and we are loading as much as we can onto the Internet so students have 24 hour access to the information. The students create video reviews using Movie Maker and create history podcasts that we can upload to the Internet so that they can see and hear it on any computer. The snag we have run into is that we do not have headphones with microphones that the students can use to upload the information. The kids need to be able to speak into the mic and create an MP3 file to send to the Internet. The students need more than the 2 headsets that I have bought. Having only two sets slows the process so much that we do not have time to do what they like. All of our kids do not have the money to buy these for themselves and it is difficult to procure the monies from other places right now.

I need the 30 headsets so that each class can work on the projects and get them uploaded in a timely fashion. We would be able to do three times the amount of review from each section and reach all level of learners. The students would have 24 hour access to the information and they would have been the people that created it. They really love to go and see what they created on the web so it makes learning fun.
