We are not just kindergarteners, we are a close community of learners. My students are kindergarteners in a school that is classified as a title one school in a high-need poverty level area. My school is a brand new school that is just starting up and trying to provide optimal materials for the students. However, with a new school the budget only allows for so much and it is difficult to provide all classrooms with the materials that are needed for best possible success for each child. All year we focus on books that are at the students reading and interest levels. We also focus on materials that will motivate them to want to learn to read or continue to learn to read. I want to provide my students with opportunities to experience books at their level in different ways. My goal is to provide my students with trade books and leveled books at their level. I would also like to make a reading center available to them. This will allow them to listen to books at their level as they follow along. Finally I would like to be able to supply my students with reading experiences on the computer. I hope to encourage my students to understand that they are successful readers and that learning to read and becoming a better reader is an exciting and invigorating process! With your help, my kindergarteners can see how exciting it is to learn to read. How they can feel successful with the books that they choose to read. This will also prepare them for the years to come in their education as life-long readers. My kindergarteners need multiple sets of Junie B Jones books and recorded readings as well. Also, they need a CD/Tape player, Leap Frog Activity books and pillows.
