My students need an electric pencil sharpener because we are always needing to sharpen pencils and the nearest sharpener is located at the other end of the school (the students are left unattended to go sharpen them). We also need 48 sets of flash cards.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work in a very high needs community with nearly 90% of our students receiving assistance with lunches. Our school is a Pre-K to 5th grade school with 30% bilingual classes. I offer an after school Homework Help Session 3 days a week to assist students where parents can not. I have a large number of illiterate parents in my school community.

At Homework Help, I have students finish their homework early and start causing trouble for other students. I can't let them leave without their parents and I have to keep them busy. They frequently forget their library books, so it is up to me to find an alternate activity for them to be engaged in. Students just love working with flash cards and use them as a game--yet they are learning!

The resources I chose are math manipulative flash cards for different focus areas--adding, subtracting, division, and multiplication. These will provide opportunities for all grade levels to use them.

With your assistance, many students will have fun learning their basic math facts. They won't even realize they are doing it! At this critical age of development, I hope you can help me make a difference in the lives of the children that I am helping. Thank you for your time and consideration.
