" MORE "I teach in an urban, low-income, second- grade classroom where two-thirds of my students are English Language Learners. These students are eager to learn and want to read well.
Most of my English Language Learners go home to a non-English speaking/reading household. Since an important aspect in learning to read is to read and be read to at home every day, my students' reading achievement is slowed due to the lack of English support that would help them progress. MP3 players will help these students by allowing them to take home, not only their printed books, but their books recorded in English. This will give them greater exposure to the English language and give them the quality practice they need to increase their reading abilities. Your help will give these ELL students the boost they need to become even more successful in reaching their learning goals. My ELL students need 12 SanDisk Sansa MP3 players to be able to listen and read along to stories read in English in their non-English speaking homes. HIDEMs. S.'s Classroom:
