Hooray! This project is fully funded

We are a first grade class in a high-needs, title-one school, over half of the students in our class are english language learners, and regardless of socioeconomic status or native language all children deserve quality literature that makes learning to read a fun, engaging experience that fosters a lifelong love of reading and learning.

First grade is a particularly exciting and crucial time in a student's academic career because typically it is when students learn to read. Their growth in language arts during this critical year can have a profound impact on their future for better or worse. The students in our class sincerely want to learn to read, and they get really excited about GREAT books especially song books. Singing makes everything fun and easy, especially reading. However, in order to use songbooks to make reading fun and easy, each student needs to have a copy they can read/sing on their own or with their classmates. This is where generous donors like you come in.

26 copies of Mary Wore Her Red Dress will provide one copy for each student in our class so we can read/sing this classic folk tale adapted into a colorful book together as a class. Reading/singing this book will help our students develop fundamental reading skills such as tracking and one-to one-correspondence and will also reinforce their learning of colors, another first grade learning standard. Above all, providing fun, easy, low-stress opportunities, such as these, for children to learn to read instills them with a love of reading and learning that will last a lifetime.

The students in our class have the skills and the desire necessary to become successful readers and learners this year, and consequently, positively impact the rest of their academic career and lives. All we lack are some of the necessary tools and resources to take our desire to learn to read and make it a tangible reality.
