Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first year kindergarten teacher in a Title I school consisting of 1200 students. About 90% of my students are on free or reduced lunch. More than 50% of the student population speaks a language other than English. Three of my 21 students have limited English speaking skills.

I have several students in my class that have limited English skills in addition to a child that is autistic. Being able to provide these students with a concrete object during a language lesson will really help them in grasping the concepts and objective they are required to learn. I am very limited in hands on supplies.

The phonemic awareness kits would be a great introduction into new sounds. These kits would allow the children to explore and have the hands on experience they need in order to grasp new vocabulary and sounds that many children struggle with. The kits will be set up in centers so that all the students will have access to them during center time.

With your help and donation of the phonemic awareness kits my students will surly have a strong foundation that will carry to the next grade. We need to provide our students with a strong phonemic awareness foundation for their future success. When they take their TAKS test, they will have a strong background in phonemic awareness that will allow them to figure words out that they may have never seen. You will help make it possible for my students to be successful.
