Get Your Hands Dirty with Math!

My students need hands-on math materials to help them build their math foundation and understand/master basic math skills.

This project will make math time (core and intervention) most effective by demonstrating and reinforcing math concepts with the assistance of the all-in-one, hands-on teaching kits. I teach 5th grade math to middle and low level students. Most of my students are of very low-economic status. My classroom is in desperate need of materials that will help my students build and master their math skills.

Like, I already said my kiddos are of very low economic status. With all of the education budget cuts taking place, my school does not have the funds to order extra materials for my classroom. I am a second year teacher and I was added on to teach 5th grade math and science this year. I entered a completely empty classroom. This means that my kids and I have created our own resources or I have purchased them on my own.

Our classroom is in need of a hands-on kit and dice tubs. The hands-on kit includes materials that will help kids with place value, geometry, standard and metric measurement, money and decimals, regrouping, fractions, operations and area/perimeter. These hands-on materials will allow my kids to have an extra resource. The different types of dice in the tubs are excellent for practicing simple operations, mental math and exploring probability. There are a variety of dice in the tubs, including polyhedrons, number dice, dot dice, fraction dice, operation signs and blank dice. These materials can benefit students because it will demonstrate and reinforce math concepts. It offers a possibility for kids to be successful and to move from middle and low level up to a higher academic status.

Students each learn in their own way. Some students are visual learners, some are auditory learners, and some learn better through movement. However, in the classroom, we tend to focus on the visual and auditory learner. This hands-on kit will allow bodily/kinesthetic learners to better understand and master their math skills. By donating these resources to my classroom you will make it possible for my students to learn math in an exciting, hands-on way. This may not be possible without you. It is vital for students to get all of the opportunities they can to be successful. Thank you for giving them this chance.
