This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

The preschoolers in my school come from low poverty homes in a large metropolitan area. Their families, often, come from other countries, speak another language and only have the money to buy what is necessary for their families. Books and toys are often considered indulgences.

Little children acquire mathematics spontaneously in their play. Through experimentation with blocks, they learn number operations, shapes, measurement, and geometry. Through the use of block play, children experiment with the acquisition of math intuitively. It is simplistic, inviting, and allows children to experience an immediate feeling of success.

The acquisition of math isn't separate from language and literacy skills. When young children play and build together with blocks; they are using math language and exploring avenues of the big ideas in math without understanding the accomplishment. My children need to be able to experiment and manipulate blocks to get the big picture of the understanding of geometry in their play. With the inclusion of this type of block my 3 and 4 year old children will be able to learn how to concretely solve geometry and gain that sense of accomplishment.

Through your generous help, my young preschoolers will have the opportunity to build success and begin to understand beginning math skills in their block play. Later guaranteed success in school mathematics and block building was depicted by Frank Lloyd Wright. He played with blocks as a child and became one of the world's most accomplished architects.
