This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Sit on THIS! ... We would if we had decent chairs! I am a current first grade teacher who only wants the very, very best for her students. However, if my teaching salary could expand a bit more in my wallet, I would be eager to spend my hard earned cash on my little ones. Unfortunately, I cannot... So I'm in need of a little help.

This is what's going on: My first grade students are extremely active and hardworking. They enjoy running around, working on the rug, and definitely doing some independent work to show off their intelligence and crafty skills. However, the problem that our class keeps running into is a simple, basic necessity that unfortunately our school lacks funds to supply: chairs. Currently, my students sit on old wooden chairs of which many a times have they complained of getting a splinter or two from. The chairs wooden seat are so worn through that any day now, we are expecting a child to fall through the cracks! On top of that, the bottom protectors for the feet of the chairs are missing. It's not surprising for me to watch a child rock here and there on their chair because of a lack of equilibrium due to the unevenness of the chair's legs and missing feet. I've definitely witnessed a fall due to that.

We need a class set of 25 plastic, durable chairs to sit on, and a couple of chair socks to preserve the chairs and our beautiful classroom floors.

All I am asking is a chair for each of my student and for a couple of our centers. All we ask is to sit properly and safely so as to focus on bigger things at hand: succeeding at reading as a first grader... not worrying about getting a splinter from an old chair or tipping over because the chair is unbalanced. Please help us out!
