My students need a large clock/timer that will help them see elapsed time and time remaining in each activity.

I am the PE teacher at the smallest of 4 elementary schools in our town. Our population stands at about 350 kindergarten through fifth graders, and will stay that way - we are presently land locked and serve the older section (in regards to housing) of town. We are presently at the 46% free and reduced level and serve a very transient population - very few of our children have been enrolled at our school from kindergarten through 5th grade. I teach all grade levels - students have physical education 1-2 days a week.

I am presently just using a stopwatch and trying to give the students verbal cues and letting them know when each minute is up, etc. That doesn't help when we are timing ourselves using time accrued (an example is seeing how long you can do a flexed arm hang, seeing how long it takes to run a mile and how long you can jump rope without making an error). As the students get older, they are more interested in beating their old time and this timer would help them keep up with thier scores. It would also help the slower students see their times and not be embarassed by having to ask, or have the other students hear their score.

I am requesting a large timer that the students can see from all areas of the gym to help them know either how much time has elapsed, or how much time they left in an activity. When we do our running or walking laps, they do it by time and they like to know how much time they have left, or how far they have gone in 1 min, 2 min, 3 min, etc. I would also be able to take this timer outside and use it during the nice weather to time our laps, relays and games that have a time limit. We would also be able to use the timer when our 5th grade has their annual 5K walk/run. They raise money for a scholarship (given to a graduating high school student that attended our school) with the walk/run, and we have participants that want to know their time as they finish.

Your donation will make it easier on me (yeah!) and enable the students to keep track of their own times and hopefully, they will run a little faster, or jump a little longer if they can see how much time has elapsed, or how much time they have to go in an activity. I will be able to concentrate on what the students are doing and not so much on keeping track of the time for them. Students would be able to keep their scores private if they choose to, or brag about it to their friends if they want!
