Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade math at a small middle school in an urban Bay Area city. In the several years I have worked here, I have watched the community and the students rally to improve our school from one of the worst in the district to a model for the neighborhood. Through the hard work of our students, our community now views us with pride rather than shame. In order to reward our students for their tremendous effort, the staff has made a strong commitment to increasing student engagement. In other words, the students have done their part, now we must do ours to ensure school is an enriching experience for them. Over three years, with the tremendous help of DonorsChoose.org, we have built a “Logic Library” for our math department that includes over 50 educational puzzles and games. It has been a tremendous success, as our students clamor to play chess or solve manipulative puzzles at every free moment. In a community that is so often deprived of basic necessities, the level of enrichment they receive from our Logic Library is even more meaningful. The enthusiasm of our students has allowed them to work through the majority of our library, so we hope to expand our resources to match our students’ interests. Your donation would help us build upon a stellar resource that has already benefited hundreds of kids. Help us keep our Logic Library growing!
