Medieval Voices - Readers Theater

My students need 15 copies of the book "Good Masters! Fair Ladies!" by Laura Amy Schlitz to perform Readers Theater.

We are a K-8 magnet school for social action. We are also home to the only Primary Years and Middle Years International Baccalaureate Programs in the state. We rely on novels and trade books for instruction rather than textbooks.

Children at our school LOVE to be on stage whether acting, singing, dancing, or simply reading aloud! Their appetite for information on kings, queens, knights, Middle Ages warfare, and all things Medieval is endless.

This project satisfies students' desire to perform while promoting inquiry into the Medieval Times. It will be offered during Discovery Club time for students in grades 3-5 three times a year. Readers Theater doesn't require props, sets, or costumes. The books are the scripts! We simply need multiple copies of Newberry Award winning book "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!" by author and school librarian Laura Amy Schlitz. Essential objectives: -Students will chart what they know about the Middle Ages/Medieval Times. -Students will develop some basic understandings of the Middle Ages through research in books and the computer. -Students will choose a Medieval play from "Good Masters! Sweet Ladies!" to perform with a partner using Readers Theater. -Students will perform their play for the group. After performances students will rate which play they liked the best and tell why. That play may be performed for Community Meeting. -Student will clear up misconceptions using the chart made the first day based on their new knowledge from the research and plays.

Your donation will provide a literature-based opportunity for students to practice their performance and audience skills. This project hits standards across subject areas and grade levels.
