I am the lucky music teacher and band director in an elementary school in rural farm country in Vermont. We have a HUGE band this year - nearly 55 kids!! We are lucky to be in a community that loves and supports the band, but it is also a rather economically poor community - we have a hard time raising funds for projects like this in a community where 80-90% of our students are receiving free/reduced lunch.

We need uniforms! Each year, my students march in parades and to look their best, we need uniforms. Last year, a generous DonorsChoose donor helped us get t-shirts - the students designed the logo and we made up the t-shirts. Kids were allowed to keep them and many wear them with pride even though they have outgrown them. They are so proud to show they are a part of the elementary school band!

With your generous help, my students will create a new band t-shirt for the 2008-2009 school year. These shirts will show the new band logo, their name, number of years in band, and the instrument they play. These shirts create a HUGE sense of pride with my band students and show our out-of-school community that we have a great band.

Your help will foster a deep sense of pride in my students - they are so proud of what they do and they desperately want to show it off! Just like the basketball team gets to have basketball t-shirts to show they are a part of the team, my kids want to show off their participation in band. Be assured - you will help to create a group of incredibly happy and PROUD students that can march down the street with their head held high, knowing they look as good as they sound!
