Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My school is a high poverty school in Texas that has a great deal of technology already in place. The students need more interactive experiences to bring more rigor, relevance and relationship into the classrooms. I'm a special needs teacher for grades K-4, and also the technology teacher for all grades including PPCD and PreK through 4.

I borrowed a video camera from the administration building and a class created their very own commercial for a grant opportunity. The experience was incredible as the students became more engaged in the topic and they wanted to do more school wide topics that would support important educational and community topics. The problem is that we no longer have the camera, as it is a camera shared with 61 different schools in the district(for the schools that don't have a camera)

The 1 week we used the camera showed how creative and engaged the students could become with real life experiences. I personally have all the editing equipment at home, but the school needs to have this experience for years to come.

A camera for our school will benefit all students today and in years to come. It will get our kids involved in the classroom, and bring that experience they have to their community.
