Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class "Documenting Family History for Teen-Age Parents" is a new class created with the objective that the young parents can be able to catalog and research their family history and the effect on the development of their new family. All of the students are from a high need community of Puerto Ricans, Mexicans and Afro-Americans. Our school has offered to the community, for the last 35 years, the services of the Family Learning Center. A center that helps young parents to obtain a high school diploma with the benefit of an on-site childcare center. It also tries to strength parenting with male role models, and help with literacy problems at their own home in order to create self-confidence and future education plans to improve their families.
The students have develop a high interest in the idea of creating a catalog of their family history with the objective of having a solid piece of information for their new families. They come from a diverse composition of families such as single parent, foster care or raised by grandparents.
The resources that I need for my class are 15 scrapbooking albums, acid free paper, 15 scissors, markers, double side tape and glue. This class will benefit my students by giving them a sense of their own history and a sense of belonging. Most of them suffer from a severe lack of self-confidence, self esteem and abandonment from their own parents. The main purpose of this class is to enhance their responsibility as a parent through the keepsake of their children moments. To help them to cherish and document those special moments as a parent that will helps to enhance their parenting skills.
Your help will improve the life of young new parents and parents to be by making possible for them to document special moments of their life with their children. They will cherish memories with their children that most of them have never been able to do with their own parents. Having a baby has been a big deal for them, it has impact them in ways that they never imagine. Your help will, in a way, enhance their sense of responsibility and their parenting attitudes and values.
