My Chemistry students dare to have fun with science! I am currently teaching in Mississippi in the public school system. I am currently teaching students in grades 10-12 most which will go straight to the work force from high school. It important to try to encourage them to try new and exciting thing like Chemistry. It is important to learn to think outside of the box. They really enjoy doing labs but our funding is extremely limited for purchasing supplies. I am trying to reinforce areas of chemistry like metric conversions that they will see again in the work place.

I have found that my students really enjoy trying to apply what they learn in Chemistry to the real world. They enjoy learning ideas that will help them in the future. Our biggest obstacle would be very little equipment if at all and little funds to help with labs.

This project will help students apply what they know about the metric system by using common lab equipment to make measurements and then use the measurements to convert to other standard units. Most student will remember the metric conversion because they have applied them to areas that they will see again in the work force. 70% of all students remember what they have practiced by doing in the lab.

With your support my student will be able to complete and apply applications of metric conversion to real world situation. This opportunity will allow each student to have practice using basic equipment such as the electronic scale and the thermometers. This project will help reinforce skills that are needed in many areas of the work place.
