I am a Title One reading teacher located within New York City. I teach adorable third grade students who are struggling readers. My children are enthusiastic and eager learners. One problem that is presented daily to my students is the lack of choice for reading material. It is rare that we can find enough copies of a book to use in literature circles. It is for this reason I am asking for sets of interesting books and activities to use for literature circles. Classic book titles such as Caps for Sale are a part of this amazing collection of literature. Imagine children who are in deep discussion about the characters in a novel. What better way could there be to build comprehension? Literature circles are the perfect forum for children to learn all reading strategies. It is within a literature circle that many, if not all, students take control of their own education. Confidence is developed by all students as they take charge of different roles within their circle. Please help my awesome students thrive as readers. I am sure with these many wonderful books they will soar as independent readers who can think critically about literature. Plus, the added bonus of literature circles is the growth of vocabulary and writing skills the children experience.
