It is so important for students to be able to read. Not only should they have opportunities to hear fluent readers, they should also be able to choose books they like to read. I teach a group of 16 third grade students in one class and a group of 22 students in a second class English Language Arts and Social Studies. We are a rural community with 90% of our students qualifying for free or reduced lunch.

Lack of funding has been a major downfall for our community and in turn I have not been able to supply the necessary materials to meet my students' individual needs. I have a wide range of readers; some of them can hardly read anything and others who are able to read two grade levels ahead. If I want to challenge my students and offer them books at their level, I have to supply them.

I would like a class set of different books such as Arthur's Thanksgiving, Best School Year Ever, and Freckle Juice. These sets are in various genres to offer my students variety. These books would be used in small groups, literature circles, and as read alouds. Many of the titles range in difficulty level and meet my students' interests.

Your help will ensure that my students are given every opportunity to read books they are interested in throughout the year. It will also give them a chance to read books at their individual levels.
