Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a special education teacher in a high needs school. My students are second and third graders. All of my students receive free lunch and breakfast. My students are fighters, literally and figuratively. Most of them have lost hope in the academic setting. They think they are dumb and no matter how hard they try they cannot be "good". I have two students who cannot recognize the letters in the alphabet and two other students who are just now learning to spell their last names.

My biggest obstacle is behavior outburst, violence. I have learned that my students need to be broken up into groups and moved from center to center every 15 min.

I am looking to create a fun and comfortable listening / reading center. I hope to create a Dream Catchers Corner in my library with comfortable bean bags to sit on and for the students who are not quite reading yet an opportunity for them to just listen and follow along.

With your support I will be able to focus on small group instruction and individual instruction to best meet my student’s needs.
