These words I have never heard. I teach at a school that is finding success in middle school reform. (A rare gift these days.) We are changing the way that teachers and students look at the curriculum. With the state standards clearly in focus, we are ready to take our students to the next level.

My students are from a very low social-economic status and the average parent educational level is rated at "some high school", meaning the average parent has not graduated high school. Together these facts mean that it is rare to find that students have access to technology at home. We give students access to computers at school, but in today's technology based world, students need more. TIME TO PUT MORE TECHNOLOGY IN THE HANDS OF STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT HAVE ACCESS TO IT AT HOME.

What I am asking for are digital video cameras. These will serve several purposes: First, the English Learners in the school can practice speaking and then listening to their own ability. This helps students to see what they really sound like as they present to the class. A Great Tool For Reflection! Secondly, students can now expand group projects to including a technology aspect. Thirdly, the 8th graders can learn to create a DVD yearbook to sell the the rest of the school. Fourthly, our students are starting a service-learning campaign and can create a video series on conservation to share with the local elementary schools. I could continue with another ten reasons why these cameras would be beneficial, but we all already know how important it is to be able to understand and use technology in order to be successful.

It's up to you! I have been privileged enough to have three projects funded to help my classroom. The kids love watching the website to see how close we are to reaching our goal. Please make the effort to help the classroom and empower the students. I appreciate it and more importantly the students will be amazed with your generosity to provide these materials for their classroom. You will be truly moved by the thank you letters we will send you. Thank you for your support and we hope to receive these supplies soon.
