I teach 6th grade Life Science and 8th grade Earth Space Science at a school located in a low socioeconomic area. The school budget has been cut and there is little money for materials.

Many of my students are struggling academically. I have NO science materials in my room and the text book is beyond comprehension levels. My students need to be stimulated and experience learning through a variety of activities in order for them to grasp and retain the concept. I am expected to teach 6th graders about cells, something that can not been seen with the naked eye. I have been asked repeatedly by my students, "When will we use a microscope?" It hurts my heart when I have to reply, "We don't have any."

I want my students to feel like real scientists and use scientific equipment. I want them to be able to see what different cells and their organelles look like. I want an "Observation Station" with activities that will encourage students to learn about cells, be able to speak about what they have learned and create models representing the concepts. This station would also serve as a great review for my 8th grade students and give them the opportunity to explore.

Having an "Observation Station" in the classroom would inspire the students and support learning, not to mention making Science more fun. Your donation will help increase student learning and success through the use of scientific equipment and materials.
