Speech pathologists in the schools helps children with communication difficulties. I work with students from preschool through the eighth grade in a small district in Illinois. My students have a variety of challenges, including developmental delays, autism, and cognitive impairments.

Since this is a small district we struggle with funding, especially for special education programs like speech-language therapy. Each year I have a very meager budget with which to purchase not only basic classroom materials (such as paper, pencils, and markers) but also expensive speech-language tests and therapy materials. Purchasing technology to enhance therapy with my students is a luxury that we cannot afford.

Many of my students would benefit from being able to see themselves working on their communication skills. Once students learn the basic skills they are working on they sometimes struggle with carrying this skill over into conversation. I would like to be able to quickly and easily video tape the student so he/she can see and hear exactly what he/she is doing and to facilitate the carryover process.

Your help will make it possible for my students to critique their own communication skills and improve them, perhaps reducing the overall amount of time they require speech-language therapy services.
