Help Our Girls Build Self Esteem

My girls need 50 copies of "GirlWise: How to Be Confident, Capable, Cool, and in Control", by Julia DeVillers.

I am a sixth grade English Language Arts teacher in a low income school and the leader of an after school group for girls, Girl Talk, Girl Walk.

The girls in our middle school deal with many issues that young women should never have to deal with. Many of them are forced to be adults before their time. At the same time, they also have to deal with other typical middle school issues like self esteem, body image, and troubled relationships.

In order to respond to this need among our girls, I have come together with five other females teachers to start a group for girls called Girl Talk, Girl Walk. We meet twice a week, once to talk about girl issues and once to exercise. We teach the girls about healthy eating and provide healthy snacks. We also teach them a variety of activities to do for exercise. And we deal with every topic from boys, to friendship, to confidence. We have started using the book "Girlwise" to focus our discussions and would like for every girl to have a copy of the book to keep and use at our meetings.

Today as we started our meeting, we had each girl say the best part of their day. One of them said that it was PM homeroom because then she remembered that she didn't have to go home because we had Girl Talk. This group is incredibly important to our girls and helps to make them into the kind of women we need more of in the world. Please help us to increase their self awareness by sending us the books we need.
