I teach 4th graders at a school with about a 38%(moderate) poverty rate. Our 4th grade students have the opportunity to have a hands on, American history camp come to our school!! No transportation costs or worries, the camp comes to us!!

Our school has the opportunity to have an American history camp set up at our school. The obstacle is that the cost per student is $14.00. I am asking if you could help off set the costs for our students. That way we would be asking students for for a smaller amount than the full $14. This smaller amount might be more manageable for most of our students.

Making social studies interesting to elementary aged students is difficult sometimes. If the event didn't happen yesterday, then many of the children are not interested. This is an all day class visitation beginning with an introduction to different elements of Colonial American life. With the American history camp the children have the opportunity dress in authentic 1770's clothing and learn what materials were used for clothing. Students will also play Colonial games as well as make an Indian beaded necklace (while learning about bartering and trading). Students will also have the opportunity to make apple cider and to learn basic knots such as square knot and bowline. The students will also learn the difference between a rifle and musket and observe a demonstration of a flintlock musket.

Your help will ensure that my students experience what life was really like in Colonial America. This opportunity will have a lasting effect on their learning. They will participate in hands on experiences and will finish the day with six completed activities. This experience will help my students to love learning about history!!
