Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hi,I am a 2nd grade teacher. I am teaching in a high poverty area in Brooklyn, New York. About 98% of our students receive free lunch. My students are wonderful and eager to learn despite the many obstacles they face. I love coming to work everyday and teaching my students. However, this year I am having difficulty because I have students who are new to this country and I can’t speak communicate with them. Our school has a growing number of students who are language learners struggling to learn English. I currently have students in my class who are new to the country. Unfortunately, I only know two languages. They are wonderful and eager students, but I can’t communicate with them or their parents. My concern is that I can’t speak Chinese, Bengali, Arabic or Korean. How am I suppose to communicate with my students besides showing them flashcards? It is extremely difficult because I also have to teach my students who know English. I want to provide the best possible education for my students. I would love to be able to help by students by having them use the wonderful Rosetta Stone program. Rosetta Stone is an award-winning program that builds language fluency naturally. This will benefit my students by teaching English beginning at their proficiency level and focusing on vocabulary, basic communication, listening and speaking skills. My English language learners will be able to work independently on the computer as I teach the rest of the class. Your donation will make it possible for my newcomers to learn English rapidly. Please consider donating to my class and making a life-long impact on my English language learners. It would have in impact in the students in my class in the future as well. I would be able to use the program every year with my new students. I can’t thank you enough for you consideration. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration!!!:)
