Calculations in First Grade Coming Up a Little Short

My students need 30 calculators to use with our new math program. We are a first grade class of 30 students and have zero calculators to practice with! These are essential to our new math program and our school is not providing them.

Do you want to help 30 less-than-privileged students succeed? We are a group of first grade students in a low-income urban public school in Illinois, and we need your assistance.

We love our new math program, but we don't have all the required supplies we need to carry out the lessons. We can't afford to buy our own calculators, and our teacher can't afford to pay for 30 on her own.

We just need 30 TI-108 calculators so we can practice our skip counting with addition and recognize patterns in numbers. These extra manipulatives might also catch some of our attention where otherwise we may have become frustrated enough to stop trying in math lessons.

Your help will ensure that we have a complete foundation for next year using our new math program, and for the rest of our lives as learners.
