Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work in a county where our School Board had to sue our County Commissioners to get the other half of our annual school budget released. I teach 6th grade science in a Title 1 (High Need) school in rural North Carolina.

Many of my students do not have internet access at home. Some do not even have home computers. The only opportunity these children have to conduct internet research and create technology projects is at school. Unfortunately, our school only has computers available for student use in our library. Students can work on a power point or project on these computers, but they may not print or save the files. This limits the student's technology experience immensely.

Providing removable drives or "sticks" to my students will enable them to save files and information that they need for long term projects. Students will be able to develop power point presentations and other multimedia projects over several visits to the library.

By providing these "sticks" to my students you will greatly enhance their technology experience. They will be able to develop projects over several class periods, transport their files to other computers (public library) for homework and show their finished product in the classroom from my computer. These children need to have 21st century skills and technology is a huge part of those skills.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
