I am an enthusiastic 2nd grade teacher who is excited to bring my joy of writing into my classroom. I am a new teacher at a high needs school located on the west side of Chicago. Our school consists of a large percentage of students (approximately 99%) that receive free or reduced lunch. This means that we're at a school whose population falls at or below poverty level.

I have noticed that many of my students are just barely at, or below grade level in their reading, writing and math. My students come from a very disadvantaged area, but they are still held to the same standards as students with a social advantage. Many of my students are able to grasp the concepts to write, however they are not able to grasp the connection of organizing their thoughts in writing.

With this in mind, I am requesting this wonderful software program to encourage my students to write. I have attended a class on this software and I can see how it will benefit my students greatly. My learners will be able to organize their thoughts into a graphic organizer; the software has an audio component that repeats what the student has typed. Also, the program allows the student to use pictures with the audio, which really reinforces the words being used. After the students fill in the graphic organizer, with a click of the mouse, an outline is formed from the information that the student typed in. It is a great tool to help the students with their writing and they can visually make the connection from their thoughts in a graphic organizer to the same thoughts in a writing sample. In addition to the writing, I will be able to use this for teaching and reinforcing math concepts. The visual aides allow the students to build problem solving and reasoning skills. Writing is intertwined into all subject areas; this program would be a very valuable tool for my students.
