Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Hello generous donors! My partner teacher and I are starting a science club in our urban school. Students at this school live in a very populated city with limited access to resources. We are volunteering our time and opening our doors to students in grades three through five in order to bring science to life. Most of our students come from low-income families. The majority of our students are learning to speak English, and are in great need of hands-on learning experiences.

I am fortunate to have a partner teacher in the fifth grade who is a retired scientist. Children flock to his classroom during recess in order to gather their own butterfly net supplies. This talented teacher and I want to expand science opportunities for our eager researchers. We are running into a roadblock when it comes to providing science learning supplies for 35 students. Things get expensive fast.

Help us jump our financial hurdle. We need slides and specimens, microscopes, bacteria kits, owl pellets, and X-ray sets. These items will greatly enhance our teaching of life science. Students will be able to explore the world around them with the safe equipment I have selected from a reputable supplier.

We are aware that times are tough in the financial world. Our students experience financial hardship every day of their lives. The ultimate goal of our science club is to bring some magic back into the classroom. In fact, we are already discovering that the whole school campus can be a learning environment. A generous donation of supplies would greatly contribute to the learning needs of students trapped in a virtually science-barren school day.
