Engineering Enigmas for Eager Beavers

My students need 18 ink cartridges and two K'nex machines motor sets. The students will be participating in a contraption convention to encourage engineering, and will use K'nex to build and learn about inventions and simple machines. They will need the ink cartridges for various information from the internet.

I teach gifted students in a very low socio-economic town. Most of our students are minority students. They have very few real life experiences.

I want to encourage their creativity and their engineering skills by participation in a unit about invention, contraptions, and simple machines.

We need various videos and hands on building kits. We need some lumber, tools, glue guns, and ink for our printers. The students will design and build contraptions like that of Rube Goldberg. Their contraptions will do one simple thing , but will take several steps to complete this. We will invite engineers to judge these contraptions.

Please help my students sharpen their creative problem solving skills and be inspired to be the future engineers of NASA and other interesting organizations. They have such few opportunities here.
