What is a Mathematical Connection? It is linking mathematics to technology in my classroom. I am a fourth grade teacher at a school that serves predominantly low income families. We are a Title I school, as well as Equity Plus.

My students have shown an interest in the Internet and using it daily in math class. Our school does not have LCD projectors available for each class (we have 3 available in the entire school), so it is hard to have access to them daily. I have noticed increased interest and much growth while using the online math manipulatives, videos, and other tools planned to be used with the LCD projector. This technology will increase interest and as a result, will also increase success.

By providing an LCD projector, I will be giving my students access to an abundance of math-related activities, research and learning tools online. I know that my students lack access to these tools at home and the technology will provide meaningful and relevant learning experiences for them.

As 21st century students, they need to be taught with the tools that they will be expected to use later in life. Students will learn how to use technology to research, investigate and navigate the world around them. I am eager and excited to give my students the opportunity to use technology daily in their math lessons. I want to give them relevant and meaningful lessons and applications for mathematics.
