Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

To increase self-esteem, health and wellness and knowledge of other cultures, I teach a belly dance class for 9-12 grade girls, from a low-income minority community.

To add to our choreography and the knowledge of belly dance, my students need veils, which look beautiful as they spin around the room.

I've requested white silk scarves and scarf dye and would love for the students to use their creativity to create their own veils. I am also the Visual Arts teacher and can guide them through the process.

These girls are facing many difficulties in life. A number of my students are pregnant or dangerously close to dropping out of school. Belly dance has helped them to feel empowered as women and to realize that they can be independent and assertive. Please help!
