Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

To promote self-esteem, health and wellness, I teach a belly dance class for 9-12 grade girls. Seeing them pop their hips, shimmy their shoulders and look at themselves in the mirror with confidence is extremely rewarding!

My students and I are driven to a local community center to conduct our class. The CD players there are broken or so old that they do not play loudly. We can barely hear the music over the students' exclamations over finally mastering a dance move!

I need a CD player that I can bring to the community center myself! I have numerous CDs with drumbeats and Middle Eastern tunes. I need the girls to hear it so that they become inspired to move!

Let's help these girls continue on their successful paths towards becoming empowered, happy and healthy women! Many of these girls come from low-income minority communities and are succumbing to early pregnancies, marriages, and familial pressure to drop out of school and work. Belly Dance keeps them coming to school! Thank you in advance!
