The students in my classes are typical 8th graders studying physical science. My district is located in a rural PA community. The student population is academically diverse and we practice full inclusion.

Physical science can be a pretty difficult topic for many students. They are also faced with exposure to rich multimedia experiences as part of their everyday lives. Traditional teaching methodologies are no longer appropriate techniques to capture and hold their attention. Teachers must find new approaches that provide educational experiences that will meet the needs and interests of today's student.

USB microphones will allow my students to create and claim ownership to exciting projects that showcase their knowledge in ways that match their daily experiences. In a classroom with limited computer access, these microphones will give us the ability to create quality podcasts, voice threads, wikis, slidecasts, digital stories and avatars. When students are using technology as a tool for communicating with others, they take on an active role rather than the passive role of recipient of information. The students will be actively making choices about how to generate, obtain, manipulate, or display information. Headphones will enable students to listen to interactive media on the computer in a variety of circumstances ranging from a media rich website to a prerecorded unit test without distracting the entire class.

Your donation will empower me to provide my students with learning experiences that are fun, innovative and creative. Funding this project will make it possible for me to present lessons and learning opportunities in a way more likely to engage students than traditional methods. In a classroom with limited technology resources, these items will help differentiate instruction and improve learning for all students.
