Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My New York school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the United States. We are a small high school situated within a large complex that is comprised of seven (7) additional small schools. Due to the size of each school's population, PSAL teams represent the entire campus and serve to unify all schools involved. Unfortunately, individual schools on campus have very limited operating budgets. And in light of recent economic set-backs, our budgets have been further reduced. The PSAL requires that each athlete wear a team uniform that bears the school's name and team affiliation. As the uniforms must be customized, the price can be beyond the reach of most of our students. Money should not be the primary reason a talented athlete is barred from participation. My goal is to create a tennis team that is opened to all of the students on campus. By doing so, I hope to unite the small schools on campus through sports; to offer promising young athletes a opportunity to participate and learn through team-work and competition; to provide a safe and supportive environment to improve self esteem; and to provide a means for students to become more involved in school-wide activities that will promote success on and off the courts. Please help me to help those most in need. Thank you!
