Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first-grade teacher in a exciting school in Connecticut. My students come from very low income families and need every chance that I can give them. They are all very special and full of limitless potential given the proper chance.

I am asking for a complete Hot Dots set. My students try each and every day to read their best. However, many of my students come from families where they have not been exposed to verbal communication or reading as a child. When they come into my classroom they are already at a severe disadvantage. I would like to give them the opportunity to reach their full potential, have fun and feel good while doing it. My district does not have the funding for extras. As teachers we are given very little supply money each year. Because of my students situation this is spent on basic things i.e..pencils, crayons, glue scissors, notebooks etc...As a new teacher I have already spent a lot of money on my classroom and just can't continue to do it. I don't want my students to suffer because of limited funds.

The resources I am asking for are Hot Dot Pens that run on 3 AAA batteries each and multiple sets of Phonics, Math and Reading cards. Each set of cards works on a direct lesson needed for reading: short and long vowel sounds, sequencing, comprehension etc... The math set works on addition, subtraction, money and telling time skills. The student will light up when they see these new tools, have fun with them but at the same time learn and be able to reinforce what we are teaching. It's an activity that is done as an independent task while the other students are in reading groups.

Your help and generosity will make it possible for my students to learn how to read and at the same time feel good about themselves. Without a strong basis in reading a child will struggle their entire educational life. They will struggle to succeed. With all the struggles that my students face on a daily basis you can help me ensure that reading will be one less worry. Thank you for your consideration.
