Rolling Books!

My lower elementary students need 6 rolling book carts in which to return books from their classrooms to the school library.

“I LOVE Library Day!” I hear this a lot at our elementary school. The children are excited about story time with me, the librarian, and happily and proudly walk out of the library with their new books for their classroom reading boxes and to take home to share with their families!

However, in order to fully utilize our automated library system all the returned books from a classroom need to come back to the library as early as possible in the morning to be checked in before the class comes for their library session. Even though each classroom has a student library helper we need a more convenient way for the library helpers to transport their classroom’s returned library books back to the library as the library helpers are often too small to carry the large stacks of books, much less a crate full of books. In many ways, the same is true for me!

By providing each lower elementary classroom with a crate on wheels the children will have a standard place to put returned library books and the library helper of the day can use the crate’s handle to roll the cart to the library as part of the classroom’s morning routine. This will not only facilitate the early morning return of books to the library, but it will allow the library helpers to develop ‘job’ responsibility by making the task within their ability.

Your help will make it possible for my classrooms to get their library books back to the library in way the library helpers can do themselves! The books will be easily returned in the morning and checked in so that when the students come for library time we will be ready for story time!
