My students need a classroom Sony digital camera to be able to capture their proud learning moments in a picture in order to create a memory that usually isn't shared or acknowledged at home.

A picture speaks a thousand words and a memory lasts a lifetime. Sound cliche? Maybe so, but this statement says it all for what I want for my students. I teach first grade in a high poverty area (and high crime area actually) where most of my students are considered throw aways and unfortunately don't always have much positive acknowlgement from their families. I want to capture their proud learning moments and memories at school on film so they will be able to look back on those moments with a sense of pride and personal self-fulfillment. I can do this by making an album for each of them.

Most of my students are below grade level in reading and math. It is not uncommon for first graders in my class to come to school not knowing how to spell or write their first name and it's not uncommon for some to not know their birthdays. Can you imagine? It seems that they aren't paid attention to in their lives outside of school. I dote on my students and I am proud of them. I really want them to be proud of themselves and to remember what it feels like to be proud of themselves when they reach a learning milestone when they are in the midst of turmoil at home. Also, rarely do my students purchase school pictures (only 2 were able to this year). Again, can you imagine? They have no documentation of themselves at this precious age. So simply put, I need to make an individual album for each child to capture their learning moments and to have as a life long keepsake.

A camera will make this dream possible. I have 1 computer a printer in my classroom so I can assemble the albums using those items, but I don't have a camera.

Your help will ensure that my first grade students will have a memory of a lifetime and something that they will be proud of and cherish for the rest of their lives. Thank you for your help.
