My students need 25 yearly subscriptions to Time for Kids.

Curious Classroom in need of answers! I am a self contained (all subjects) 5th grade teacher. It is classified as a Title I school which means that over 90% of its student population is on free or reduced lunches.

With so many pressing issues in the media today, 9 and 10 year olds are very confused! My students are very curious and concerned with the current events: Presidential Election, Economy issues, Hurricane Ike, etc... Unfortunately, I don't have enough time in the school day to address each particular issue as thoroughly as they would wish. They leave my class feeling "incomplete".

I feel that providing my students with a weekly issue of Time for Kids will inform the students with accurate and up to date pertinent information as well as entertain them and motivate them to read non fiction text while also practicing their writing skills.

If you feel as I do, that it is very important to keep our young population abreast of the issues that are presented in the media, then this is your opportunity to extend them an opportunity to become knowledgeable citizens. It is never too early to be aware of national and global issues and start making a difference!
