Math Museum Curators Seek Gallery!

My students need a gallery for their project work: cork for the cinder block walls, paint and brushes for the cork, and display pockets for their masterpieces.

We are a small community who work together to soar to new heights. We value teamwork, independent thinking, and helping others. In our classroom our number one rule is ELE - "everybody loves everybody." Sixth grade is a tough transition and geometry can be a difficult subject, but we are determined to learn and challenge ourselves to think outside the box.

In our grade 6 geometry classroom we are creating many visual projects this year, including research projects with graphs produced by Microsoft Excel and other hands-on work. We need a place to display all our amazing projects, and even create a wall of fame for those especially amazing discoveries and deeds. Our cinder block walls provide the area needed, but we can't hang anything! And our amazing work and reasons for recognition need a dignified, warm space.

With some cork, paint, display pockets and sheet projectors, we can create a project gallery and a wall of fame worthy of our incredible work. We can assign curators to organize the projects from each class who will not only hang up the work, but also help students choose their best work to display and create cards to explain the work (just like in a museum). We will create a space in our classroom that is just ours . .. that makes us think and reflect and be proud!

Your help in this small project will change our classroom environment for the rest of the year. We are so excited because this is not just our project; we can start the gallery this year and next year's students will be able to use what we set up to create their own galleries. Without your help, we won't get funded this year and won't be able to start the gallery. Sometimes changing one or two things in your house can make such a big difference in your life; it's the same way with our classroom! Having the chance to create our gallery will give us our own space to feel proud of and take care of. We can look at it and say how great it looks, and "we did that." We currently don't have any place of our own like that at school.
