Morning News with a Digital Camcorder

My students need a MiniDV Digital Camcorder for producing the morning news broadcast throughout the school each morning.

I am the media specialist of a small community school in a rural location in my district. Students are very enthusiastic about learning, but often do not have all of the technological resources available to other more affluent schools.

Students here enjoy producing the morning broadcast, leading the entire student body through the rituals of repeating the nations' "Pledge of Allegiance, our school's motto, schoolwide pledge, and code of conduct. Students also provide the daily lunch menu, give the word of the month and its definition, and any special announcements. They are seen throughout the school on classroom TV's. Students are always trilled and excited seeing themselves and their classmates on television.

We need the digital camcorder. All students benefit because those doing the broadcasting are exposed to public speaking, proper language usage, an often written expression when writing their information for the broadcast. The other grade levels (PreK-3rd) participate on special occasions or events, but the 4th and 5th grade students take turns at broadcasting quarterly, even working the camera by themselves.

Your help will ensure that my students get a very early exposure to broadcasting, that may even stimulate and motivate some of them taking an interest in ABC, NBC, CBS or even CNN news.
