I teach Visual Art classes to middle school students at a public school in a lower income neighborhood. This year’s budget for art materials and field trips was cut by 42%, making it difficult to purchase mat board and other materials needed to display my students creative works; and impossible to take my students to the local Art Museum. This means my students will lose the opportunity to experience the impact of a large collection of art work displayed in one location. They have not seen groupings of art works which explore how various artists interpret a common theme. If I can't take my students to the art museum, then we will create our own! My students have talent and enthusiasm and they deserve to have their art work seen by their peers, parents and members of our community. I want them to take on the role of curator, not just artist. I want them to plan displays, advertise the show, create invitations and act as docents for a Fine Arts Exhibit at our school. I believe this project will give them a sense of pride and accomplishment. To give their works a finished touch I need mats. The uniform matting of the finished works will enhance the experience for the artists and their audience. Your donation will make it possible for my students to beautifully display their art work. They will create an art museum within our campus, invite the public and experience the planning and pride that goes into a successful show. My students need black mats to enhance their art work for public displays.
