In a Bind to Make Books!

My twenty-six students need a bookbinding machine, binding materials and an ink cartridge combo pack.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first-year teacher, in a high-need school, to an outstanding group of 26 fifth graders. I have been lucky enough to work with the fifth-grade gifted class this year, meaning that our classroom runs at a quicker pace and more emphasis is placed on higher level learning. Their interest in academics keeps me on my toes and stretches me to new levels, as they have me inspired to keep my students engaged and always learning.

Help! We're in a bind! My 26 students have absolutely beautiful self-created tourism books on select South American countries, but no way to keep them together to display!

Beginning in January each student began an in-depth study on a selected South American country. South America has been one of our major focuses in Social Studies this year as we are becoming "South America mavens" in order to showcase our knowledge at our school's Gifted Fair in late April. This night is set aside for all of the gifted classes within the school to celebrate a year of learning and show families all the knowledge that was gained throughout the year. The gifted classes this year each were assigned a continent to study for the duration of the academic year. As one has probably guessed, the fifth graders were given the continent of South America. One of the major projects we have been working on is the creation of South America tourism books. Each student has spent hours becoming an expert on their selected country. Any one of these fifth graders could tell you a plethora of interesting facts and important information about their country. From the history, the major tourist attractions, to the best time of the year to visit, they've done the research and are ready to showcase what they've learned!

With the donation of a simple book binding machine, binding and ink to print off book covers, you will allow my students to effectively and proudly display their South American books at the Gifted Fair. My students have worked incredibly too hard to not properly display these pieces of art, rich in knowledge and effort. All we need is you to get us out of our bind...please help us bind our books!
