My middle school orchestra is made up of some of the most fantastic kids in the world, but most of them find it difficult, if not impossible to afford their own instrument. My school is a visual and performing arts middle school, serving a high-need, at-risk community.

It is impossible to fully describe the obstacles many of my string students face. Peers ridicule them for playing an "uncool" instrument, parents cannot afford to purchase (or in some cases rent)one for them to practice, and even the bus drivers do not want them to carry the instrument on the bus. Yet even with these and more, my students show an intense desire to learn and grow in their chosen Art. They want to have and develop a special talent that gives them a broader horizon for the future. College? Definitely. Music Scholarship? An instrument to practice at home, even during the summers sure would help!

A new cello outfit consisting of instrument, bow, and a case will enable a student to practice at home and even participate in the community youth orchestra on the weekends. When the first student to use the cello is able to get one of their own - or, sadly, decides that cello is not for them - that cello will move to another student who needs it.

Your help will provide a crucial plank in the bridge to a better future for my students. I expect greatness from them, and in return they give me everything they've got. With a little help from you, there is no height they cannot achieve.
