What?! You Can't Take Away GYM! Part 2

My students need balls in a variety of sizes and textures. We need a ball cart to hold all of the outdoor play materials. We also need a portable basketball hoop, bubbles and a bubble kit for outdoor play, and yoga cards for indoor use.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This school year, our Preschool classroom lost the privilege of having gym class! This "special" along with music and library were taken away from us. I teach Preschool for All in a very high-need, high-risk area of the city. I have 40 four and five year old, bilingual children. At times during the year, it is not safe to take our children outside to the park in fear of gunfire or gang activity.

With the recent loss of gym class to our curriculum, I am desperately seeking out ways to create a large motor area in our classroom. Weather permitting, I would also like to create a mobile outdoor activity area where the children are able to release their energy. Funding and supplies are very limited in our high-poverty, low income school. Teachers have to find other ways to get the much needed supplies for our classrooms.

We would like to have an array of balls in different sizes and textures. These will allow my children to play both indoor and out and are great for children who need sensory adaptations. We love doing Yoga in our classroom as a way to cool down and take a breather. I would love to have a set of large and durable yoga cards for the children to use on their own in our gross motor area. We would love to have a ball/supply cart and a mobile basketball hoops for our classroom. These items could easily be taken outdoors but are of a decent size where they could be used in the classroom as well. Organization for our items is a MUST with 40 children in a PreK classroom.

Your help will enable my children to release their energy in a safe, positive way. They will be learning a great way to cool down and relieve stress (YES! Even four and five year olds have stress) in a positive way as well. With new balls and a basketball hoop, the children will begin to learn new games and skills. All of these items will help develop their gross motor and small motor development along with coordination and balance. By donating to our classroom, you will be providing endless hours of enjoyment for my children. Play is such a fundamental part of being a kid! Not only are they "playing" but they are learning skills on how to get along with one another through interaction.
