I teach a wonderful group of fifth graders. Unfortunately, my school does not provide me with a budget to provide necessary materials for my students. Much of what I have in my classroom has come from my out-of-pocket purchases. It is difficult for me to ask the families for extra money to purchase things in my classroom because most of my students come from low-income homes.

We write drafts in our classroom every day. The best way to improve their writing is to have the students writing everyday. Twice a month we publish a story. This includes editing and revising the paper, and then writing/typing the final copy. We currently staple the stories together when the stories are complete.

If our school had a comb binding machine, we would be able to make the publishing step more formal. It would also make the stories more durable. The students would be able to share their stories with their classmates.

Your donation would really encourage my students to take the time to publish their stories. Sharing their final product with their classmates and families would keep them writing more stories.
