My students have so many stories to tell. I teach first grade in a title one school. My students are eager six year old students who are just discovering how exciting it is to be a writer.

My students are authors. They have learned their sounds and have begun blending words and stringing together sentences to share their ideas, and their memories. One of their favorite parts of the day is word study. They collect words around the room that follow a pattern, or review an introduced blend or digraph. They collect words that belong to a category. They practice new sight words. All these activities and so many more involve a wipe board and a dry erase marker. It seems the only thing stopping my word builders is our dried out markers.

We simply need more dry erase markers. The dry erase board is an enticing medium that inspires children to give their best effort. Being able to erase a letter and try writing a word differently encourages children to revise edit and constantly strive to learn new words. The colorful markers are a tool that young children can manipulate well and enjoy using.

My first graders have the ability to learn new words. They have the desire to try new spelling patterns. Their ability to spell more interesting and complex words grows each day. A few dried out markers can dry out their enthusiasm. You have the ability to refuel my little writers with some dry erase markers.
