I am the only kindergarten teacher at our school, and I presently have 29 students. Over 65% of our children receive free or reduced lunch. I have a diverse class that keeps me hopping. I have several special needs children, and I want them all to be exposed to as many special learning opportunities that I can offer.

Most of my babies come to school with little or no knowledge about what goes on around them. They have not had any of the learning experiences that some children have had. Most of these children have not ventured very far from their homes. Many of these children do not sleep in beds, but on the floor. Some, needless to say, have never stepped inside of stores with automatic doors or even have running water in their homes. My wish for them is to have a water activity at school that will allow them to experience water play as they learn about one of greatest natural resources.

Having a water and sand table would allow my students to explore water by measuring and comparing. Children are drawn to water no matter where they are. They want to feel water as well as taste. The sand and water table would be used in conjunction with our water study. We learn about water conservation and how vital water is to our existence. We also learn that every living thing needs water to exist and without it our lives on earth would cease to exist. The children learn that it is everyone's responsibility to protect our natural resources. We learn about watershed management and how critical it is for maintaining and restoring our nations valuable water resources. I try to instill in the children how important it is to always keep the environment clean because of pollutants being washed into our water systems. The sand and water table along with the water toys will allow my children to have an experience of a lifetime while they learn about one of our greatest natural resources.

Please help my children learn more about one of our greatest natural resources. These children may be the very ones that have the greatest positive impact on the future of our clean water supply.
