Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I work in a school that is located in a Los Angeles high poverty neighborhood. Although my students vary in reading ability and levels of English proficiency, I have started an election unit that has motivated my students to learn about our government. With the current emphasis on language arts and math sometimes social studies can be overlooked. At this moment the election has become a high interest topic in my 4th grade classroom. Since the school budget only allows us to purchase materials that are mandated by the state curriculum we do not have a budget to purchase materials that are current and related to the election. I am asking for a variety of books and video resources that relate to the election. These resources will allow me to create an election unit that is authentic and current. The variety of books will allow my students to gather information and learn from diverse resources which include narrative and expository text. The School House Rock video is an engaging method to teach my students about this historical election that is taking place. You can make a difference in the lives of these 4th graders. Your donation will make this election time even more memorable by creating an inclusive learning environment that will reach all my students. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
